When you have a baby, and they lay that tiny bundle in your arms, you look at that little scrunched-up face and wonder what will become of the little person behind the face. Last weekend, we found out about Beth. She is a doctor!!! Our Our daughter graduated from USUHS, the military medical university and is at her new duty station now starting a new career as a radiologist! She will be working at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth for the next five years. We are proud of her and pray for her success and happiness!
One of the best things about the graduation weekend was that our family members were able to make the trip to Washington DC to attend the ceremony and visit with us. Most importantly, Joshua, our son, was able to be a part of the celebration and see something of DC. He is a Long-Term Care administrator and so is a part of the health-care system as well, having spent the last year and a half in class, interning and studying for and passing state and national exams! Both my parents and Robert's father were also able to make the trip as well as my sisters and Robert's sister and Brandan's mother! Beth says it sometimes felt like herding butterflies trying to make sure that everyone got where they needed to be at the same time, but it all worked out!
Daddy and Robert's dad were able to see the memorials dedicated to their times in service. It was very moving to see their faces as they saw the concrete evidence of their country' gratitude - which , for Korean War veterans, at least, was absent for a very long time. Daddy still bears the scars from being sent into the fall-out from Operation Castle (one of the Bikini atom bomb test!). And Jack's scars, while not as visible, are no less real - he didn't talk about his service in WWII until the eighties!
Sophie was, of course, very cute and very well-behaved. She has learned to use a digital camera, although the pictures of Sophie's world are most often of knees, or her fingers in front of the lens! But she knows how to turn the camera on, aim and shoot and then preview the picture! Richard Avedon, look out!!!
